Wow, have we forgotten George W. Bush already?

And Perry is already claiming that Ben Bernanke's economic policies are "almost treasonous" (note that Bernanke was first appointed by Bush). Why? Well, if the economy improves, Perry will have a harder time getting elected.

Crazy, isn't it? Well, how about this:

Best line?  "These other folk? They're just Moral Majorities in a tri-cornered hat."

Now personally, I think that Ron Paul is almost as crazy as the rest of the Republicans. Not quite, of course (not nearly as crazy as his son). And crazy in different ways, perhaps. But still pretty crazy.

Nevertheless, it's remarkable how the establishment types just ignore him. Paul is too much of a populist for them, I guess. (It's certainly not that he's too crazy, not with Bachmann and Perry in there.)

  1. The media has always treated Ron Paul this way. It's pretty despicable isn't it? The AP or Reuters article on Yahoo about the straw poll, said that he was a "fringe candidate" even though he came in 3rd. The main stream media doesn't know how to fit Paul into their little box of conservative vs. liberal and so they ignore him.

  2. Of course, he is pretty much a fringe candidate, John, and that's not the media's fault. It's just a fact that some of his ideas (not all) are anathema to the Republican base.

And Republicans don't take well to anyone who deviates even slightly from their beliefs. You have to be orthodox right down the line or you're considered a "traitor." Or a "moderate" (which is probably even worse).

That straw poll is a weird setup that rewards organization and enthusiasm even more than a caucus does. Paul doesn't do nearly as well in ordinary polls, and he really doesn't have a chance at getting the nomination. He's just in the race to be heard.

(Yes, I'm kind of arguing against what I posted above, but there's something to be said on both sides.)
