The gay Democrat agenda

I thought this was funny - especially because it didn't work:

Here’s an interesting way to rally opposition to a ballot proposition that would allow for same-day voter registration: convince voters that its being pushed by gay activists and their pro-gay agenda.

That’s what the Maine Republican Party did with ads they paid thousands of dollars to run in Maine newspapers.

Yeah, this was an issue of same-day voter registration, but the Republicans were trying to use culture war propaganda to fight it. How sleazy can you get?

The ad never mentions the subject of referendum question one, which asks: “Do you want to reject the section of Chapter 399 of the Public Laws of 2011 that requires new voters to register to vote at least two business days prior to an election?”

The website of the Maine Commission on Governmental Ethics and Election Practices is mentioned in the ad, so they were forced to clarify that they are “not responsible for the ad. The ad was paid for by a ballot question committee opposing the people’s veto.”

Additionally, they linked to a report showing the Republican party was paying for the ads.

Maine Republican Party Chairman Charlie Webster did not immediately respond to a request for comment. He previously said that students were committing voter fraud in the state, allegations that were found to be false.

As I say, this didn't work. Last week, Maine's voters overturned the repeal of same-day voter registration. Good for them!

That TPM article includes a copy of the ad (not just the picture of part of it, as shown above), and I also thought it was telling that the Republicans call Democratic candidates the "Democrat" candidates.

Yeah, you see that everywhere these days. Apparently, that's one of the cultural identifiers for these loons. You can't respect your opponent even enough to get their name right. It's always the "Democrat Party."

Obviously, this is supposed to be a slur. I'd always assumed that it had been adopted from Rush Limbaugh, but according to Wikipedia, Republicans have been doing this since the 1940s.

But it's so childish, you've really got to wonder, don't you? Aren't there any adults left in the GOP?
