Well, all this is interesting to me, anyway, and that's what matters here. The Internet is a terrible thing for someone like me, who finds almost everything interesting.

War with the Dutch?
So, now we've got the Dutch mad at us. Hey, isn't war with Iran enough for Rick Santorum?
OK, it's funny, but it's absolutely insane, too. Honestly, I think that Republicans are so used to just making up their own facts that it simply comes automatically to them now. Santorum might be the worst at this, but they all do it, from Fox News on down.
But what's it say about America when a serious presidential candidate - Santorum, after all, has been leading in many Republican polls - spouts such crazy stuff about an ally?
Of course, this is the same Santorum who calls American colleges "indoctrination mills" that turn 62% of college kids into liberal atheists. (I wish!) He dislikes public education, promoting home schooling as the only way to keep your child believing the lies you've taught him.
Facts, for Rick Santorum, are just whatever you want to believe. I'd hate to have a guy like that on the City Council, yet about a third of Republicans want to make him President of the United States? How crazy is that?
O.....M....G!!!!
ReplyDeleteWhere is the straight-jacket and padded cell when you really need them??
WCG, seriously, Santorum doesn't need to be defeated......he needs to be COMMITTED!!
I would imagine the Obama campaign people are grinning to themselves and saying "he's the gift that keeps on giving." I hope so.
I am going to try my best to inject some humor into this, so here I go:
Rick Santorum, please commit this this video to memory:

Jeff, have you ever read Robert A. Heinlein's "If This Goes On—" (1940)?
DeleteIt's a science fiction story about a future America, based on events in 2012 - yes, 2012 - when a Christian fanatic, a backwoods preacher, is elected President of the United States and turns us into a totalitarian theocracy.
So, yeah, this is funny, but also worrisome. It's not that one crazy individual believes this stuff, but that he's got about a third of the Republican Party behind him. And if he does get the nomination, you can be sure that he'll have all of the Republican Party behind him.
After all, none of those "real" Americans are going to vote for a (black) Muslim, Kenyan, socialist Nazi, right? And all the rich care about is more tax cuts.
Never heard of the book, but I saw a movie that's akin to it ("The Handmaid's Tale").
DeleteAs Ben Kenobi said, "Who's the more foolish; the fool or the fool who follows him?" Indeed, all Santorum needs to do is convince those 20-25% (guess-timate) who will believe ANYTHING! And, of course, the rest of the GOP will fall into goose-step....eerrrrrr.....lockstep with them. ("When you've got 'em by the balls, their hearts and minds will follow").
And, indeed, this is all a smokescreen for their real intentions. George Carlin knew this all too well:

What a circus. Republicans condemn condoms! Republicans praise rape as a gift from God. Republicans endorse trans-vaginal probes. Republicans hate women (and men who want to plan their families). What’s next? Republicans mandate missionary-position only? Hey, Newt was right. ‘Cause Newt and all his Republican friends SHOULD set up a moon colony.... AND GO THERE! Then, they could tell each other what to do and how to live and who to love.... while leaving the REST of us alone, here on Earth. Newt, I always KNEW that you were a problem-solver. Unfortunately, you and your Republican friends ARE the problem...
ReplyDeleteStanchaz, I think we've seen that comment before - word for word, in fact.
DeleteOf course, I suppose it's appropriate. But it would probably be appropriate for almost everything I post here. :) And I'd prefer not to read the same thing over and over again.
I appreciate your comments. I don't want to dissuade you from commenting here. But I like comments because I want to hear what you have to say. So I'd prefer that you didn't just copy and paste them. At the very least, word things a little differently next time, OK? :)
Good to see the response of sane Americans to Santorum's claims about the Dutch (and his 'truths' in general). Troubling to see how many followers this flat out liar still has.
ReplyDeleteHans, it's astonishing to me that he has any followers at all. Well, it's embarrassing, but right-wing religious nuts are surprisingly common here in America. It seems like they're just... everywhere.
DeleteLuckily, there are also a lot of sane Americans fighting back against this stuff.
One of the many things I've learned through your blog WCG is the existence of the wonderful Rachel Maddow. She has such a lovely turn of phrase and comedic timing which keeps me sniggering throughout all of her snippets.
ReplyDeleteSo if I haven't enjoyed anything else (which I have) just this would have been worth my time.
So that video works for you, m1nks? I'm glad to hear it.
DeleteAnd yes, I'm a huge fan of Rachel Maddow. I don't watch her show as much as I'd like, just because I don't have the time. But she's always impressive.
