Wake up with Elizabeth Warren

This is why Elizabeth Warren is getting campaign contributions from small donors all across America - including me. She's impressive, don't you think?

BTW, note that "Morning Joe" is a former Republican Congressman, not a Democrat and not a liberal.

  1. I know she's old enough to be my mom but every time I see an interview with her all I can think is "That's my girl!" Everything she says makes so much sense. And even though I've been wrong before, I believe that she will do everything in her power to really help people like she says she will.

    1. I'm sure she will, John. But you might have an unrealistic view of politicians.

Politics is all about compromise. You can't get anything accomplished in politics unless you're willing to wheel and deal, to accept that you need to give a little to get anything at all.

And that's not even considering the fact that you need to get elected - and, hopefully, re-elected - if you hope to accomplish even that much.

In our political system, that generally means that you need money, and... guess what? The rich have the money. Post-Citizens United, the rich can pretty much buy elections, and they can even use corporate money, rather than using their own.

Of course, Elizabeth Warren isn't getting much of that. And she's doing very well at raising money from people - real people - online. But how much of that will disappear the first time she has to compromise on a Senate bill, reluctantly taking the bad with the good?

I really like Elizabeth Warren, but I don't expect her to always make the same choices I would. (Or maybe I would, if I were actually in her shoes.) Politics is a messy business. No one is going to wave a magic wand and change that.

But it's also the alternative to civil war. For me, it helps to remember that. :)

  2. Hey, I didn't say anything like that. I just said that I believe that she is sincere when she says that she cares about people and wants to fight injustice and that when she hears the difficulties people are going through she, "carries it with her in her heart."

But, yeah, I'm sure that she'll have to make compromises. And when she does, she's capable of articulating that.

That's what drives me nuts about these "Good with the bad bills." you end up just hearing about the bad so you wonder why they got pushed through.

    1. Yeah, I know that, John. Sorry. I just tend to get carried away in my replies. :)
