Sarah Palin: dumb as a stump

I had to post this quote from Sarah Palin in her Fox 'News' interview Tuesday:
And the owner of the Chick-fil-A business had merely voiced his personal opinion about supporting traditional definition of marriage, one boy, one girl, falling in love, getting married. And having voiced support for kind of that cornerstone of all civilization and all religions since the beginning of time,...

Er, what? "One boy, one girl, falling in love, getting married" is the "cornerstone of all civilization and all religions since the beginning of time"?

Is Sarah Palin really that dumb? That wasn't even the cornerstone of Christianity for most of its history. (Arranged marriages were the norm, and the church couldn't be bothered with such inconsequential things.)

Keep in mind that this is a woman who had a real chance of becoming Vice-President - and potentially even President - of the United States! Yes, we knew she wasn't very smart, but is there no limit to her ignorance?

Of course, there's plenty more dumb in that interview, like saying that the people calling for a boycott of Chick-fil-A (for the owner's "not anti-gay people sentiment") are having a "chilling effect on our 1st Amendment rights," when they're actually exercising their 1st Amendment rights.

And, of course, it's the critics of Chick-fil-A who are being 'intolerant' and 'bigoted.' But that's standard right-wing boilerplate (like calling everyone objecting to racism 'racists' themselves).

Well, I don't want to spend any more time on this, just in case the stupid might be catching. (Seriously, I worry that Fox 'News' is making stupid contagious.) But I thought it was crazy enough - even for Sarah Palin - to note.

PS. If your head still hasn't exploded, and you want to risk even more dumb, try this:
A Republican member of the Tennessee state legislature emailed constituents Tuesday morning with a rumor circulating in conservative circles that President Barack Obama is planning to stage a fake assassination attempt in an effort to stop the 2012 election from happening.

Rep. Kelly Keisling (R-Byrdstown) sent an email from his state email account to constituents containing a rumor that Obama and the Department of Homeland Security are planning a series of events that could lead to the imposition of "martial law" and delay the election. Among the events hypothesized in the email is a staged assassination attempt on the president that would lead to civil unrest in urban areas and martial law.

Keisling appears to have forwarded a more widely circulated email from Joe Angione, a Florida-based conservative blogger. Angione prefaces the rumor by saying it has not been confirmed but likewise notes it has not been denied.

Of course, "civil unrest in urban areas" is right-wing code for race war, the favorite bugaboo of right-wing bigots. Gee, do you think they've noticed that Barack Obama is black?

And note that this isn't just some random wingnut, but an elected official. Well, I guess Mitt Romney has found his VP pick, huh?

  1. Why do all the nuts have to come from Tennessee? I need to move.

Also, if you go by the Bible, it endorses slavery and polygamy, and all kind of weird marriages. It seems if your brother died, you'd have to marry his wife kind of thing. Actually, I don't think the Bible spent much time on marriage customs. Even in those days it was a legal custom. And often marriage had to do with ownership of property and other legal matters. Of course, I think the women were the property.

    1. I've got to tell you, Jim, that Tennessee doesn't have a monopoly on the crazies - far from it.

On the other hand, they do seem rather plentiful there. :)

    2. Hmm, speaking of Tennessee... maybe you've got a point, Jim. Even the Democrats seem to be completely nuts! :)
