Well, all this is interesting to me, anyway, and that's what matters here. The Internet is a terrible thing for someone like me, who finds almost everything interesting.
Did Jody actually say this: " I know it's difficult for liberals to stick with facts and not drift off into a dreamland of evil caricatured opponents they can slay?"
Classic projection.
Jody's such an easy target. We could make an effective tag-team. When you're not methodically bludgeoning him over and over again, I'll come in and pop him in the nose with short, quick-to-the-point jabs.
Poor Jody P; we make very poor liberal straw-men that he can easily tear into. We hit back....HARD.
We'd be better off buying a punching bag, Jeff, for all the good it would do. That punching bag won't change, and neither will people like him.
I get involved in those discussions, but almost against my will. I mean, it doesn't accomplish anything. It's not even good exercise.
I do like to hear what other people have to say, but people like that won't even hold a conversation. They ignore everything you say, as they're so busy jumping around, trying to avoid being pinned down. It's just a complete waste of time.
I get sucked into such things, but it's stupid. I know I shouldn't bother. But I still do it, sometimes.
Jody P IS a punching bag. That's what makes it fun.
No, we're not going to change him, but we can't let him dominate the conversation, either. That's where progressives get into trouble.
I've found it helps sometimes to look at these comment sections through the eyes of a court jester. The moderators aren't just looking for substantive comments, they're also looking for "entertainment value." If you can get the readers to laugh, you're "in."
George Carlin was a great teacher of that to me. He once said his goal was to piss of any person or any group that takes themselves a little too seriously. And it doesn't take much imagination to piss off the Jody P types of the world. If there's one thing they hate worse than being talked back to, it's being LAUGHED at!!
That's why Jon Stewart, Stephen Colbert, and Bill Maher are so popular these days; it's the "pie-in-the-face" thing. And most people are getting the message behind the jokes. Humor is the affectionate communication of insight.
Good point, Jeff, and I certainly try to use humor here. But I need to focus my efforts. Random Internet comments aren't the best use of my time. :)
After all, there's no limit to the number of crazy people on the Internet. And believe it or not, I'd rather learn from people than laugh at them (if that's an option at all).
Not quite "Ode To Joy," but the clip you posted brought this to mind:

Contrary to what passes for pop music these days, these three legends DIDN'T need "Auto Tune."
BTW, "steer clear of the odd bill." :)
Say, Jeff, did you notice that I've upset your favorite commenter at LJS, here. I'd forgotten how asinine he can be.

WCG, one more thing: George Carlin asked a helluva question: Is "God" subject to physical laws?

Try that one on Jody P.
