Yikes! It is ridiculous to expect women to be able to go back to work. But if laws like that went through women would have a harder time getting jobs. I'm sure there are already companies that dont want to hire women for fear that they'll get pregnant.
Well, John, if that's the case, the solution is obvious: paternity leave.
Either way, why are we more concerned for corporate profits than for the welfare of children? It's not that corporate profit isn't important, but that the next generation of Americans should be very, very important to us.
I hope it happens, I'd definitely use the paternity if it existed and I had another kid.
By the way do you know the percentage of companys that employee over 50 people? I've never worked for a big company.
3.3%, maybe? That's probably about right. Government statistics show that .3% of American companies employ more than 500 people, and elsewhere I saw that only 3% of 'small businesses' (those with less than 500 employees) have 50 or more employees.
Given that only 1.8% of American companies have 100 or more employees, that's probably about right. The overwhelming majority of companies - 97% or so - employ fewer than 50 people.
