When fascism comes to America

"When fascism comes to America it will be wrapped in the flag and carrying a cross." - Sinclair Lewis

I know that Americans are notoriously ignorant about history, but... this ignorant? And this cowardly, too? How did Americans get to be such hopeless cowards? I don't get it.

Incidentally, in that video clip, Trump says he "wouldn't rule it out." But don't let that give you the wrong impression:
So on Monday he's saying he'd "strongly consider" shutting down mosques. And then just a day later he's saying he'd "absolutely" close them down. With his Muslim ID card and database, Wednesday he said he wouldn't rule out creating such a system. By the end of the day he was telling NBC News he would "absolutely" create such a system.

In the Republican Party, crazy isn't enough. You have to be crazier than the other guy. If you're a Republican politician, you don't want to be seen as a 'moderate' when it comes to destroying America's freedoms, because sure as hell there will be someone even crazier than you are to steal your thunder.

  1. Crazy or sociopath?

Forgive the petty semantics. Something I read for a poster last week. He argued that we toss around the term "crazy" to describe Republicans a little too easliy. He opined that crazy was a matter of mental illness. Being a sociopath was a CHOICE. What are your thoughts on this even though it's just semantics?

Speaking of crazy and/or sociopath, there's THIS:

    1. Jeff, I know that some mental health advocates are unhappy with the casual use of "crazy" or "insane," but those aren't professional terms, and I don't see much of a choice.

"Sociopath" is a psychological term, and in most cases, it wouldn't be strictly accurate. (Whether any of those is a "choice" is debatable. Beliefs aren't a choice, but actions usually are.)

And yeah, that link is really, really disturbing, isn't it? Armed loons trying to intimidate Muslims at their place of worship? Can you imagine if the roles were reversed, if Muslim-Americans wielding AK-47s did that at a Christian church?

And to "Stop the Islamization of America"? How batshit crazy do you have to be to think that's going to happen? (Sorry, but "batshit crazy" is the only way fitting way to describe that.)

  2. And I thought your headline was promising a review of the new TV series THE MAN IN THE HIGH CASTLE. Funny how reality apes fiction.

    1. Jim, I wish this were just fiction! Although, I might find it too implausible for fiction.

As Warren Buffett said, "What we learn from history is that people don't learn from history."
