Well, all this is interesting to me, anyway, and that's what matters here. The Internet is a terrible thing for someone like me, who finds almost everything interesting.

Dr. Mary Anne Franks: fighting fundamentalism
This is a great talk, it really is - very perceptive and thought-provoking. It's not just about religious fundamentalism, either. Indeed, she seems to hit all of the hot-button topics.
Weirdly, the video has nearly as many down-votes as up-votes. Dr. Franks seems to be someone who gets her share of internet hate.
I have to wonder if they even listened to her talk, though. Even if I didn't agree with her (though I certainly do), I'd find it well-argued and interesting, and certainly nothing to get bent out of shape about.
Ah, but those hot-button issues - guns, race, internet harassment, abortion, etc. Just the mention of them gets some people bent out of shape, huh?
A couple of things off-topic but I'd like your feedback.
ReplyDeleteWhat did you think of that chickenshit stunt "rich boy" Ricketts tried to pull by dissing President Obama when he flew into Omaha. It's a bad look, to say the least. It's like the military; you don't have to respect the man, but you respect the RANK. Swallow your damn pride, greet Obama at the airport, shake his hand and say "Welcome to Nebraska, Mr. President, make some small-talk for a few minutes, and you're done. Grow up, Petey boy.
Caribou Barbie endoses Trump......get your popcorn ready. :)
Eh, nothing Ricketts does surprises me, Jeff. Or any Republican, really - not these days.
DeleteIn this case, he just decided to send the lieutenant-governor to greet President Obama, rather than go himself (before reversing his decision and deciding to go, after all), right? Or did I miss something?
I don't have a big problem with that, and I doubt if Obama cares in the slightest.
Still, maybe Ricketts wants to run for higher office someday. You can't get anywhere in the Republican Party if you don't sucker punch Barack Obama as soon as you get within arm's distance. Just look what happened to Chris Christie. :)
Re. Palin and Trump,... well, I wish I was still blogging like I used to. Did you notice that she seemed to blame Obama for her son hitting his wife (and then threatening to kill himself with his AR-15 - yeah, guns make us all safer)?
And it's the Republicans who've been cutting funding for veterans' care. So the whole thing makes no sense at all (typical for Palin).
I wonder if she also blames Obama for her daughter, that highly-paid promoter of abstinence-only sex education, getting knocked up - twice, by two different men - outside of marriage? Probably, huh?
Larry Wilmore of The Nightly Show wondered if Sarah Palin was drunk when she gave that speech at the Trump rally. It sure seemed like it, didn't it? I wonder how shrill and incoherent she'll be when she's 80? We probably haven't seen anything yet.

DeleteThat might explain why she no-showed at the OKC rally; probably had one hellacious hangover.
Rots of ruck having anyone in that trainwreck of a family do an intervention on her.
