Well, all this is interesting to me, anyway, and that's what matters here. The Internet is a terrible thing for someone like me, who finds almost everything interesting.

Donald Trump vs America
What have we done to ourselves? I'm still sick to my stomach that my fellow Americans were this dumb. Dumb enough to elect Donald Trump to the presidency? I didn't think anyone would be that dumb.
But they were. You were, if you did anything else but vote for Hillary Clinton. I can barely stand to even think about this. I guess I need time. Certainly, I need humor, if I have to keep watching this train wreck.
Luckily, there's Seth Meyers. Here he is again. This is even worse than the last one, if you care about America. But it is funny. (So why am I still crying?)
As usual, Keith Olbermann is just KILLING it:

Yes, I've been watching Olbermann, Jeff. But I don't often post his stuff (sometimes, but not usually). I need humor, I guess. This is just too depressing as it is.
DeleteI've given up and now just observe. Most Trump supporters are religious in the fundamentalist sort of way and are less educated and poorer. They literally would rather die than ever admit that they were wrong in the first place. They simply cannot do it. It is tied into their world view that they can't ever critically think about or let go of. And these people are almost half of the country. This does not bode well not only for the next 8 years, but humanity at large. It will never change. This has become my belief based on observation of the many people I know and come in contact with.
ReplyDeleteMary, I've never been so pessimistic about the future of my country (and the world).
DeleteBut, despite everything, we do progress. That isn't a new characteristic of ignorant, faith-based people, and we've always had them with us. Somehow, we still advance.
Of course, it's a lot slower and more painful than it should be. There are setbacks. (Nazi Germany was one such 'setback,' so I don't take this lightly.)
Donald Trump lost the election by 2.5 million votes. Yes, he'll hold power. Yes, the Republican Party will control all three branches of the U.S. government. And yes, it's going to be a complete disaster.
But we won't lose unless we give up. I haven't given up, though I'm too depressed, too dispirited, too sick at heart to keep fighting,... more than just a little bit, at least. :)
We can't change human nature, but the world is a lot better than it used to be, and it will be even better in the future if good people, rational people, evidence-based people don't give up.
Hang in there, Mary. Progress isn't quick, and it isn't without setbacks. It isn't certain, either. But it's certainly possible. We know that, because we've seen it.
