Well, all this is interesting to me, anyway, and that's what matters here. The Internet is a terrible thing for someone like me, who finds almost everything interesting.

Anderson Cooper's response to Trump
When I was a kid, I used to wonder what it was like to see Adolph Hitler and the Nazi Party rise to power in 1930s Germany. Well, I imagine that it was a lot like this, don't you think?
Look at that idiot, the President of the United States, the most powerful man in the world, whining about what a victim he is. Look at those loony supporters, eagerly cheering every lie, gorging themselves on dishonesty, victimization, and bitter hatred.
And look at the Republican Party, which created this monster through decades of their "Southern strategy" of deliberately wooing white racists. Now, even treason isn't enough to really bother them. They criticize timidly, sure, but they still do everything Trump wants.
To this date, I believe Anderson Cooper has the DEFINITIVE quote on the Trump "presidency" when he laid the smack down on Jeffrey Lord ("He could take a dump on his desk and you"d defend him").
ReplyDeleteBill, if I recall, you said you spent some time in Germany. Have you ever though of going back there, perhaps permanently? I wouldn't blame you if you did. Take a good, long look around you. 'Murica has been completely hollowed out, physically and spiritually. There's nothing left here. If I had the money, the skill-set, and the contacts, I would be GONE.
Jeff, I'm not going to let the fascists have my country without a fight. Or the KKK, confederate sympathizers, white supremacists, alt-right, or whatever the racists decide to call themselves next week. Or the Christian Taliban.
ReplyDeleteThere are a lot of good people in this country - a hell of a lot. And they're fighting back.
Well, most of them. I'm actually angrier about the people who don't bother to even vote than I am about the Republicans. No democracy can survive unless people give a crap.
I'm staying right here. Things are going to get worse before they get better, but they won't get better at all if rational people abandon America.
Sounds like you're getting your spirit back, Bill. You seemed to be in a pretty bad place for a while, judging by your last several posts.
ReplyDeleteI have my good days and my bad days, but I'll never be Mr. Rainbows-and-Unicorns. That's the price I paid for growing up in an alcoholic household. It made it quite easy for me to adopt George Carlin's fatalism.
I'm still dispirited and depressed, Jeff, but that doesn't mean I'm giving up. I'll never give up (though I might express that sentiment sometimes, just through sheer frustration).
ReplyDeleteI'm not a fatalist. What's the point, after all? If you stop fighting, you might as well be dead. And since I'll be dead soon enough, anyway, I'll wait until then to be a fatalist. :)
Here, Jeff. You'll like this. This guy expresses my views better than I could. This is why I won't give up:
