Well, all this is interesting to me, anyway, and that's what matters here. The Internet is a terrible thing for someone like me, who finds almost everything interesting.

O'Reilly and Limbaugh, crying in their beer
I told you I was going to keep posting these, and I am. Maybe not all of them, since The Young Turks have a number of these videos showing the right-wing response to the election. But I was really looking forward to their take on it, since Cenk Uygur is quite entertaining when he gets worked up.
So here's one with both Bill O'Reilly and Rush Limbaugh, equally astonished that their side lost. Keep in mind that white people are still the overwhelming majority in America. But somehow, bigotry just doesn't work as well as it used to.
It doesn't even work as well as it used to on us "angry (old) white men," who are just about the only people Republicans have left. Well, angry old white men like O'Reilly and Limbaugh are just astonished by that.
Heck, they even put token minorities front and center at their convention! Why didn't that work? Heh, heh. And Bill O'Reilly doesn't understand why Romney lost, when twenty years ago, America would never have elected a black president. Well, you know, we do move forward, despite Republican efforts to drag us backward.
O'Reilly: "The white establishment is now the minority." He's right. Oh, sure, African Americans are only 13% of the voting population. Latinos are only 10%. But when you take away women, when you take away gay people, when you take away non-Christians, and so on,... guess what? If all you have left are white, straight, right-wing Christian men,... yup, they're not even close to a majority of us Americans.
And not all of them are gullible enough to vote Republican, either! It's hard for Bill O'Reilly to believe, but when your political party is aimed only at helping the 1% - and otherwise, just throwing a bone to keep ignorant white bigots and religious nuts on board - it's becoming harder and harder to build a majority out of that.
And that's why, of course, the GOP is so big on voter suppression. But that's another story.
"Racist piece of crap...."
ReplyDeleteThat's the best quote from the video - right at the end from Cenk Uygur, talking about Bill O'Reilly.
I've been listening to right-wing talk radio since the election, and they're all over the place. The one thing they seem to agree on is that the country agrees with them completely - they just need to have a candidate who is conservative enough! Oh, and they shouldn't answer questions about abortion.
As usual, you're absolutely right, Gregg. :) I loved that comment, too!
