John Oliver: The American Health Care Act

Yesterday, I listed the promises that Donald Trump has made about healthcare. Well, this is what Republicans are pushing and Trump is supporting.

Yeah, I don't even want to think about this crap anymore. It's too depressing. But we have to. Apathy is what got us into this mess in the first place.

You my friend are not apathetic!

I have been. I've been too depressed over the last couple of years as I saw the rise of the right around the world - Trump is just another boil on the arse of worldwide moment towards hatred and isolation.

It's good to hear from you again, m1nks. But don't give up hope. The world has been a lot worse than this at times.

We get depressed because we expect better these days - and so we should. But progress is never easy and never without setbacks. As depressed as I've been since November, I haven't given up. And I won't.

On the other hand, we can't fight all the time, either. It's not being apathetic to recognize the need for a time-out to recharge your batteries. If you need to rest, let other people carry the torch for awhile.

One of the bright spots here in America is that people are protesting. They're demonstrating in the streets. They're showing up in large crowds to confront their congressmen. I wish they'd been that enthusiastic about voting, but it's still encouraging.

Hang in there!

It's a little more encouraging now, because, as you say, people have starting jumping up a bit more. But, oh man, it was so depressing listening to the "Oh I guess Hilary is the lesser of two evils. But she's still evil' and variations of the same repeated like good little sound bite led shepple. And your media, who seem to have finally grown something of a spine although I'm not fully confident that they've yet developed a brain or a sense of something called 'A Journalistic Sense of Enquiry'.

It was so depressing to watch people being conned en masse by a con man who wasn't even ANY GOOD AT IT!!!!. It's one thing to be hoodwinked by a master of the craft, but by TRUMP?! A man who was so incompetent at hiding what he was really like it was no surprise when the infamous 'grab her by the pussy!' tape came out - people who acted shocked were either lying or brain dead. And of course even that outrage didn't last past turning around, everybody was bending over backwards to excuse his behaviour. Evangelicals I could understand - we all know what a bunch of slimy hypocrites that lot are, but women as well?

I fairly much gave up on the human race. I thought, well, if the American voters are just that stupid then I guess they are going to get what's coming to them. Of course the rest of the poor sods, such as yourself, and the rest of the world has to suffer right along with those dumbasses but, hey! Perhaps this is what the world needs? It's been too long after WWII and we've all gotten complacent, maybe WWIII is needed to punch some sense into us all again. Nuclear Holocaust anyone?

There will never be progress until the left and the right realize that they are being played. Obama care and what Trump is proposing is one of many distractions to pit Americans against each other so we don't see that our freedoms are being taken away. Liberals and conservatives are so pathetic. Both says that the other is violent, while ignoring their own actions. Both are causing America to go down the tubes.

M1nks, I agree with you completely,... except for your last three sentences. No, we don't need this, and we certainly don't need war.

Hiker Boy, I have no idea what you're talking about - some kind of weird conspiracy theories? I prefer to stay in the real world. And in the real world, healthcare is important, though it's not the only thing that's important, of course.
