The conservatives have been playing the "those who will not work shall not eat" card a lot lately.
Guess who else did? Drum-roll, please.....Lenin!!
"In the USSR work is a duty and a matter of honor for every able-bodied citizen, in accordance with the principle: “He who does not work, neither shall he eat.”
-- Article 12, Soviet Constitution of 1936
I dropped that nugget on the LJS peanut gallery a few months back; they didn't have much to say in response.
Heh, heh. Nice one, Jeff! It's even true, which is more than you can say for most of the stuff they post.
The funny thing is that most of the able-bodied adults getting food stamps do work. It's just that their pay is too low to keep them out of poverty. Heck, some of them are even fighting our wars!
And does that apply to children? To the elderly? To the disabled? Are we going to refuse food to children until they get a full-time job?
But what am I doing? I'm trying to use reason here. How foolish is that, when dealing with the right-wing? If they were rational, they wouldn't be right-wing in the first place.
