Proteus - the basics

Proteus isn't exactly my normal kind of game. In fact, I'm not sure it's a game at all. But this is neat, isn't it?

And right now, it's 66% off on Steam - only $3.39. So I really think it's worth checking out.

When I heard about Proteus (here), I did a search on YouTube, just to get a better idea of what it was. And some people are actually posting a "full walkthrough" or "full playthrough" of it. Heh, heh. Can you imagine anything that really misses the point more than that?

This video, on the other hand, was exactly what I needed. And I must admit that I saw places I wanted to go, while I was watching this. Proteus isn't a game, not really, and I wouldn't spend a huge amount of money for it, but I think it's going to be neat to look around there.

This particular sale ends January 2nd. Just sayin'...

This looks like the most boring game I can think of.

I actually think it seems like a fun idea and I don't blame you for taking a chance at that price. One of the things I love about games like Skyrim and the recent Fallout series is the ability to just explore places. I would pay a small price to explore worlds like that without all the battle happening.

Well, John, I'd be willing to buy it for you (while it's still on sale), if you want to try it out. You'd need a Steam account, of course. Let me know.

I was actually wondering if Jim would like it, and I was tempted to make him the same offer (especially since he bought Fallout: New Vegas at least partly on my recommendation, and I don't think he's played it at all).

But I guess I wasn't impressed enough to be that much of a missionary for Proteus. At that price, I'm glad I bought it, but it's just an interesting experience, nothing more - for me, at least.

I agree, Carl. But I also get bored without combat. I love exploring in games, I really do. But I need some kind of threat. (It wouldn't have to be combat. Even the need to find food and water, or shelter at night, would be enough, I think.)

It's funny, but in Proteus, I kept expecting something to attack me. But that never happens. A few things run away, but that's all. I mean, I knew there wasn't anything dangerous in Proteus, but I've played so many games that I couldn't help expecting an attack of some kind. Funny, huh?

Oh, I wouldn't want NO combat, but I'm happy that games like Skyrim and Fallout will allow for free exploration. If you kill everything in an area you can at least wander around exploring at will with no threat...at least until you leave.

I would be the same way as you playing Proteus...I would be expecting something to jump out at some point.
