Another day, another mass shooting

If we didn't do anything after Sandy Hook, we sure as hell won't do anything now, huh? After all, every lunatic in America needs a way to kill large numbers of innocent people as quickly as possible, right?

Hell, it's worse than that. We can't have registration. We can't have researchers studying gun violence. We can't even have a simple way of determining who the murders were after-the-fact. Nothing is too extreme for the NRA and its enablers.

You have a combination of a powerful lobby, the NRA, that buys politicians (especially Republicans) like candy to ensure all the weapon and gun makers and the sellers have plenty of money. Add to the mix the "good old boy bubba" mentality and right wing conspiracy nuts and people that use the 2nd amendment to justify there obscene collection of weapons and you have a recipe for disaster that will never change.

Oy, where to start, Bill?

About the Las Vegas shooting: Political rhetoric-wise...same shit, one mass shooting later. The right-wing goobers just double-down.

About the NFL "take a knee" thing: After this, I may never go to another football game again. Not because of the players taking a knee, though. I get what they're doing; it's just sad that it's come to this. The reason I may never go to any more football games (high school or college) is that the right-wing goobers are going to double-down on the patriotism. Ever since 9/11, the patriotism at football games has become more and more belligerent. It's one of the reasons I don't go to Husker games anymore. It just got too creepy.

About the Puerto Rico hurricane disaster: Just when you think Trump hits bottom....

After spending three weeks recovering from my surgery, I finally went back to work this week. But I think it's still going to be a couple of weeks yet before I'm anything close to full speed. I hope it's sooner than later; if I don't start my walking/swimming regimen soon, I'll out-weigh Jabba the Hutt. :(

Thanks for the comments, guys. I agree with both of you.

Jeff, I'm glad you're feeling better. Hang in there!

I have to comment on that patriotism thing, because I, too, find that over-the-top, über-patriotism to be creepy as hell. It reminds me of the Soviet Union or Nazi Germany. I can't imagine why people think they need that in America!

If you've got a decent country, you don't need to brainwash your citizens into being patriotic. They would love their country anyway. It's only totalitarian states which need to do that kind of thing.

And we're seeing exactly what happens, aren't we? When someone criticizes Donald Trump, or even just racism in America, the right-wing instantly tries to turn that into criticism of our flag, our military, or our national heritage.

What next? None of these things seem to make any difference, because every day there's another one. It's the Gish Gallop of political insanity. We can barely focus on any of them, because we quickly get distracted by the next.
