A rational Republican?

Yes, this is a "man bites dog" story - noteworthy for how rare it is - because it's a Republican making sense about global warming (really, about anything would be noteworthy enough).

Of course, Rep. Inglis lost his re-election bid - in the primary, to a Tea Party-supported right-wing lunatic. I posted about that previously. And with a 93% lifetime rating from the American Conservative Union, and endorsements from the NRA and the National Right to Life, I don't know how rational he is about other matters.

But Republicans are going to disagree with me about most issues anyway, I'm sure. That doesn't mean they can't be rational. Except that... they really can't be rational, not in today's GOP. Inglis was thrown out of office by his own party, tarred by that dreaded "moderate" label - which wasn't true - because he wasn't quite loony enough for the real nutjobs who've taken over the party.

Ordinarily, rational Americans would punish the GOP for going completely off the deep end like this. But there aren't enough rational Americans these days. Inglis' opponent won the general election, and those far-right Republicans took control of the House of Representatives and made significant gains in the Senate.

Yeah, I don't understand it, either. I fear for my country. America's future is looking increasingly bleak, and it's all our fault.
