I loved Jon Stewart here:  "That's quite a pivot - hiring a guy who believes in everything you believe and likes everything you like,... except boobs."

Unfortunately, that was a pivot too far for the crazy GOP base. You see, in the Republican Party these days, you can't be a heretic in any respect. (And heresy is exactly how they see any deviation from right-wing dogma.)

Of course, in this case, Richard Grenell is just as fervent a believer in that dogma as the looniest of the loons. It's just that he happens to like guys, rather than girls. Burn the heretic!

I might note the comment here. Religious nuts aren't noted for their tolerance. Even when they're allies of convenience, when it's far-right Catholics working with Protestant fundamentalists, that won't last any longer than they find it mutually beneficial.

So what do you think they feel about you, if you deviate in any way from what they consider holy writ? Let me give you a hint: It's not live and let live. And you won't find "personal choice" mentioned at all, unless it's the particular brand of firearm you prefer.

I know what they think about me. They don't think that atheists can be patriots, or even that we should be considered citizens at all. But what do you think will happen once they round up the atheists, the gays, the liberals, the minorities, and everyone else they don't like? Yup, they'll start looking at each other.

After all, once you get rid of the separation of church and state, then you have to decide which religion will be the official one. And if you think that all right-wing Christians will be able to agree on that, you haven't been paying attention.

It would be wise for liberals to start pounding this talking point over and over and over again. Use the Right's tactics against them.

"...If your opponent is temperamental, seek to irritate him. If he is taking his ease, give him no rest. If his forces are united, separate them. If sovereign and subject are in accord, put division between them..."
