Doesn't it seem like Arizona came out of nowhere to become one of America's craziest states? Was it always like this, and I just didn't notice?
I mean, we've always known about Mississippi, South Carolina, Georgia, Oklahoma,... gee, we have an embarrassment of riches here when it comes to crazy, don't we? But all of a sudden, or so it seemed to me, here was Arizona making a strong, strong pitch for the craziest. What happened?
Of course, Arizona is on the front lines in the immigration wars. Even here in Nebraska, conservative whites get absolutely hysterical about Hispanic immigration. And with the lucrative drug trade - and the gun trade in the opposite direction - there's plenty of crime to stoke fears, too.
But that's no excuse for crazy, is there?
