Do you know God?

Assuming that God exists (yeah, an unjustified assumption, but let's run with it), one of the things we do know about him is that he's the world's worst communicator.

Think about it. There's not even a majority, let alone a consensus, of believers worldwide who agree on which god exists. Christians, for example, make up only 30% of the world's population. That's pretty pathetic for an omniscient, omnipotent super-deity, isn't it?

But it's worse than that, because Christians can't even agree among themselves about,... well, anything, really. There are thousands of different Christian sects with all sorts of different beliefs, even when they're basing those beliefs on the same holy book!

And that's after the Catholic Church spent a thousand years burning heresy and killing heretics. (Before that, Christians couldn't even agree on how many gods there were.)

Any god who gave a crap about human beings would do better than that, so why hasn't your omniscient, omnipotent, omnibenevolent Creator of the Universe? Heck, human beings do better than that. Scientists regularly come to a worldwide consensus about what's true and what isn't, and religion has been around a lot longer than science has.

So how come your God is so inept at communicating his wishes? Is it simply that he likes to torture people in Hell forever and ever? (Yeah, I know. Not all Christians even believe in Hell.) Or just that he doesn't actually exist outside of your imagination?

This is a great video. I'm always amused at the idea that God hears everyone's prayers. What kind of mind can listen to 7 billion channels of information at once? And if he's paying attention to everything, every sparrow that falls from a tree, then God has a mind that can handle trillions of concurrent focuses. That really is impossible to believe.

It's magic, Jim. After all, how can a god create an entire universe out of nothing through just the power of thought? How exactly does that work? Well,... magic!

'Magic' is the explanation that's no explanation at all. It covers everything and explains nothing. You can use it everywhere, too. That's why it's so useful, I guess. LOL
