Americans love Death Panels

Sarah Palin was wrong? Wow, that's hard to believe, isn't it? :)

Of course Sarah Palin is wrong. That's what's so right about her. :)

I like the "rinse, repeat" zinger at the end. That sums up American politics....chasing our own tails.

Now, about my trip to Atlanta. The flight down and back was OK, but the week-long stay was disjointed.

I haven't flown in 15 years, so I wasn't quite sure what to expect with all the changes in the security and stuff. My mom and I flew out of Kansas City on Southwest Airlines. Good grief, that KC terminal needs a MAJOR renovation...very old and under-lit. My mom is in her late 70s and needed wheelchair service to get through the terminal (too long of a walk for her), so we were able to pre-board. The Southwest flight attendents were very helpful and nice, but the seating was quite cramped. Oh well, Southwest is what it is...a bus with wings.

The Atlanta Airport was as advertised...VERY busy. But it was also very clean and brightly lit. Very impressed.

The one thing that concerned me the most going through both airports was dealing with the TSA security. The Force was with mom and me; the security people were halfway tolerable to deal with. Nonetheless, I'm not going to make commercial flying a habit. Going through security is just too much of a hassle.

When we finally got to our friend's house, we found our week-long stay bookended with drama. First, our friend's brother was dying of cancer. That Monday and Tuesday he was at death's door. He would rally, but he passed away the week after we left. Later in the week, our hostess had to deal with of of the granddaughters having some sort of "meltdown" while at college in Alabama and that had to be dealt with. With our friend being gone so much, my mom and I kept ourselves busy by doing some chores around the house for our hostess.

Our friend has four grown children and um-teen grandchildren. There seem to be two sets of grandchildren.

First, there's the clean-cut, military family type. All the boys play sports and one of the granddaughters sings in a gospel group (BTW, the whole family is severely Baptist. Georgia, you know).

Then there's the set of grandchildren we came into contact with.....wait for it..."trailer park." They would barge into their gandma's house and literally eat her out of house and home. "Moochers" and "takers," indeed.

We met one of her sons. Typical redneck cop. I shook his hand...."bonecrusher guy." SMH

Mom and I ALMOST made it home unscathed, but our neighbor girl's 4-year old gave us her cold BEFORE we left (I'm just now getting over it). Unfortunately, we gave our cold to our 16-year old parakeet and the old boy never recovered from it. He passed away last Thursday. The burial was in our backyard.

Phew...I'm tired all over again.

I'm tired just thinking about it, Jeff. Sorry about the cold - and your parakeet. But what doesn't kill you just makes you... sick, right? :)

Welcome back to Nebraska.
