Lawrence Krauss - we provide our own meaning



"We have to force our ideas to conform to the evidence of reality, rather than the other way around."

That's evidence-based thinking in a nutshell. You can put all your faith in fantasy, but it's still fantasy, not reality. If you care at all about the truth of your beliefs, you need to match your beliefs to reality, rather than look for ways to justify whatever it is you want to believe.

That's why science progresses and why religion, if it advances at all, is merely dragged along kicking and screaming. (Read the Bible sometime, if you think that your religion hasn't changed. See those tracks in the sands of time? That's where religion was dragging its feet, as society advanced.)
