I suppose I'm too literal-minded to 'get' poetry - certainly not unless it rhymes. I'm the kind of guy who thinks Rudyard Kipling was a great poet.
Actually, I kind of like A.G. Swinburne, too, at least The Garden of Proserpine:
From too much love of living,
From hope and fear set free,
We thank with brief thanksgiving
Whatever gods may be,
That no life lives forever,
That dead men rise up never,
That even the weariest river
Winds somewhere safe to sea.
It probably wouldn't work as a song, though, huh?
