Somewhere (sorry, I don't remember where), I saw a comment that this was the perfect summation of today's Republican Party: an angry old white man arguing with an imaginary Barack Obama.

I also heard a political pundit note that Mitt Romney didn't lie nearly as much as Paul Ryan did in his speech,... because Romney didn't discuss policy matters much. Well, that's really praiseworthy, huh? And I'll bet neither one of them lies that blatantly before he opens his mouth, either.

Anyway, we just got platitudes from Mitt Romney (no tax returns, unfortunately). But as Jon Stewart notes, it was still as imaginary as that invisible Barack Obama. Incredible as it may seem, Republicans have also re-imagined their own role the past four years as helpful!

Mitt Romney: "That choice was not the choice of our party, but Americans always come together after elections. ... I wish President Obama had succeeded, because I want America to succeed." What??? That was a bigger whopper than all of Paul Ryan's lies put together!

Jon Stewart goes ballistic at that, as he should. Can you imagine a bigger lie than that? It's just incredible, don't you think? How dumb do Republicans think we are? They've been dragging their feet, and even actively sabotaging the economic recovery. Their top priority from day one has been to ensure that Obama failed.

I would have stopped with that second clip (which ends very well), but I had to show Clint Eastwood blaming an imaginary Obama for invading Afghanistan! Heh, heh. That's a great example of the cognitive dissonance in today's Republican Party, don't you think?

Reality means nothing to them. They live in their own little fantasy world, arguing with an imaginary Barack Obama that bears no resemblance - except for being black - to the real one.

But, as Jon Stewart notes, "There is a President Obama that only Republicans can see. And, while the president the rest of us see has issues, apparently this president - invisible to many - is bent on our wholesale destruction."

Yeah, in wingnut fantasies. Only in their fantasies.
